The thing that not4resaleZ was alluding to by mentioning Sandy Munro is some of the technology which Tesla has in their motors is definitely far advanced. I laugh when Elon says that fuel cell is dead technology and batteries is the only way forward. It's stupid and short sighted to think that people aren't doing great research. In fact, I recently read an article about research on generating hydrogen on the fly to power an EV. Read more here. If this technology does make it forward, it would eliminate the need for huge battery packs, charging infrastructure, etc. Gas stations would simply have to convert from selling gas to selling/exchanging canisters. The canisters can be regenerated. A quick 5 minute swap out of canisters unlike charging an EV, 300-400 mile range, and none of the challenges associated with hydrogen storage.
